Cindy Bares

I'm New England born and raised in Watertown, Massachusetts. There I had a solid public school education in a hard-working community famous for having a large Armenian population. No, I am not Armenian, but at the time I wish I were. In Watertown I learned all the necessary life skills that would make for a solid EQ (emotional quotient) which served me well through life.

My early goal was to get out Massachusetts and see the world. I attended George Washington University and majored in Public and International Affairs - Asian Studies. After working for two years in Boston and Cambridge, I headed to the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii where I obtained a masters degree in Asian Studies with emphasis on journalism. At this time I married my husband, Bob, who graduated from law school and we headed to Asia. Internships brought us to Taiwan where I worked for a Chinese magazine, and to Bangkok where I interned for Associated Press. We spent one year in California, and another five years back in Honolulu working and starting a family.

Subsequent years lead us back to Asia where we raised two kids and lived and worked in Manila, Philippines. We witnessed a lot of history including the Philippine Revolution I was fortunate to work for the Asian Wall Street Journal at the time. In addition, I was very involved in the international expatriate community, the International School, and the local community. Our house was welcoming and we tended to be the neighborhood house to which kids and adults gravitated. Regrettably, my husband died in Manila and our lives changed overnight. The rest of the story involves moving back to Hawaii and raising the kids on my own with the help of great friends in a wonderful environment.

Now fast-forward to the present. My kids are older now, so I decided to sell my Hawaii house and move back to New England. I love Hawaii but it is an island. It's never far away since I have many friends visiting from the islands, and my house has been base camp for several Hawaii students while they are in Boston in college. I've traded in my ""boogie board"" for skis and a bike. And I've resumed sailing. We're financially stable. We're the family that planned for the worse, never thinking the worse would happen. And now I'm concentrating on investments. I remain a chronic optimist with a great sense of humor, and I still have that nagging desire to save the world in my spare time, a goal I actually work on each day in my own way."

Michael Barricelli

Grew up and educated in Boston, divorced with two teenaged sons. President of Infinite Solutions Partners, which provides management, IT and financial consulting services to Healthcare and Higher Education clients. I love to travel, especially to Italy, Paris and Asia. I appreciate and collect paintings (particularly landscapes and still life), and I appreciate wines from obscure producers. I work out when I can (Sports Club LA) and enjoy jogging along the Charles River during spring and fall.

Matthew Belmonte

At various times I've been a short-order cook, a printing press operator, a teacher, and a computer programmer, but these days I'm a scientist studying the neurobiology of autism and a writer exploring how the human mind imposes narrative order on perceptual experience. I enjoy cycling, rambling and hill walking, and reading and writing literary fiction, essays, and the odd play. I talk science too much to fit in with the arts community and literature too much to fit in with the geek community, so I yo-yo between the two.

I work for the University of Cambridge, spending some time there and some at MIT. I love England's countryside, decent local pubs, and tolerance for harmless deviance, but I also like America's egalitarianism and respect for good ideas no matter whom they come from.

I'm politically active. I believe that education and socioeconomic change produce more a more lasting security than does military force, and that stable democracy cannot be achieved by coercion. I've volunteered for the Kerry campaign in the US and I vote Liberal Democrat in the UK.

Some authors whom I admire are Thomas Pynchon, Jorge Luis Borges, Italo Calvino, Virginia Woolf, John Barth, William Gaddis, James Joyce, Joan Didion, and Anglo-Saxon and Middle English poets. Some of my favorite films are Heathers, Fight Club, Being John Malkovich, and Bowling for Columbine. My favorite museum is the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

I've studied at Cornell University (BA), the University of California San Diego (MS), Sarah Lawrence College (MFA), Boston University (PhD), and the University of Cambridge (postdoctoral). I've also been a student and a teacher at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth and the Duke University Talent Identification Program.

I am single and finally looking again. (Graduate school was a jealous mistress for quite a while.) The most important thing that I've learnt in a relationship is that no one can be happy with a partner unless she's happy with herself - and sometimes people need some time alone to work out this prerequisite. I'm INTJ (but with more and more FP mixed into the TJ).

Jeremy Bendict

Strategy consultant at Bain, specializing in private equity transactions. 3-handicap golfer, avid skier, and lover of all things outdoors. Just moved to a great condo on Back Bay after finishing my MBA at Wharton. Did Thailand and Patagonia last year, but still trying to figure out this year's adventure... Love good food and good wine. Would like to start a company soon - something that makes people happy - like chocolates or baby clothes. Other possibilities with limited chances of success: professional golfer, hip-hop artist, or governor of a third-tier state.

Richard Bland

Alexandra is my newest daughter born in September, 2004, Victoria in 1999, and Sophie in 1974. Sophie started at Shady Hill, then went on to success in New York. Only Victoria shares my interest in horses, she is a learning hunter-jumper equestrienne, the foundation of riding, mastery of which makes foxhunting and polo safe. Southeast Hunters, Old North Bridge Hounds, Newport Polo, polo in Florida and Jamaica. I also swim and spin; hike and cross-country ski. Have owned Thoroughbreds, Appaloosas, and a Texas mixed breed named Rhino. Never seem to lack for Springer Spaniels, cats, finches and fish. Married thrice, to increasingly younger women. There is an area of the brain that delights in learning about new areas of knowledge, new projects and situations, and people. Mine appears to be overactive in that area, and hence never specialized in one narrow discipline, and my history of commitment is not by the book. Thank God I have found a way to make a living like this, and thank Kim that she is not possessive.

I am a member of the Massachusetts Bar, and mix my practice of corporate law with real estate and business consulting. Most of my business activities are in New England and Eastern Canada. I have been active in real estate development and management in Downtown Boston in the 70's and 80's, while deeply involved in leading the Boston Zoological Society at the same time. I have primarily lived in Beacon Hill, Cambridge, Newport, RI, York Harbor, ME, and Gilford, NH, secondarily in St. Louis, San Francisco and LA, and Buffalo, Wyoming. Many of my classmates have retired to Florida, I will probably keep working for a long time; I am excited by what I do, since it is always new to me, and am aware of the financial demands of my offspring.

Nicolas R. Bolo

My interest in biology, physics and the workings of the mind led me to the Boston area for my job as a biophysicist studying human neuroscience, brain function and chemistry. This interest started after a philosophy class, my work provides me with food for thought about the big questions of life. I enjoy my work and go at it with enthusiasm. I enjoy swing dancing for the fun physical and social activity it provides. Good dancing brings me flow and thrill. I'll be on the dance floor most weekends as well as during the week. To balance my physical activities I work out at the gym. Even though I find the gym workout a little boring, it keeps me in shape and feeling good. I do power yoga to stretch and relax. When it's nice out, I like to bike and roller blade, but sometimes a quiet stroll is the best. I love to travel probably because I have traveled all my life. I rarely consider a vacation without going somewhere. I enjoy photography, which I consider my current addictive hobby. I usually combine the two: travel and photography go well together. For quiet time I enjoy reading novels or sci-fi (just love those biotech thrillers), indie and foreign films, museums. Art is an inspiration, I admire the renaissance artists - Leonardo, Botticelli - and aspire to be a "Renaissance man" of the 21st century (whatever that is). I can be on the extroverted side once I feel comfortable, but am a bit reserved at first approach. I have heard that I am basically an introvert. As the son of a press agency journalist, I have lived in several different countries in Europe (France, Russia), Asia and America (NY, CA). I am bilingual and bicultural (France/US), but feel rather cosmopolitan, multi-cultural. I am interested in people and cultures, which keeps me attracted to social events. Even though I have been in the Boston area since 2001, I do not know many people very well here outside of work, maybe I am still trying to understand the New England culture.

I am considered to be friendly, open-minded, accessible and patient by my friends. I know how to listen. I am gentle and caring with friends and family. I have been divorced since about 1994. My wonderful daughter, born in 1984, who was living with me, has recently moved out to go to art school. I live with the sweetest, completely black and well-fed cat. I am currently single and open to a long-term relationship that can grow. I believe in good chemistry and communication. I am looking for a woman who is clearly optimistic, happy and enjoys life.

Ted Bunker

I'm into music, books, politics and the outdoors. I have two kids and live with a dog and cat in Harvard, in the hills about 35 miles NW of Boston. I like skiing, tennis, hiking, boating and going to the beach. I've been a newspaper reporter, editor or columnist for the past 25 years, most recently at the Boston Herald. I've freelanced for The Economist, The New York Times, Time and others. I'm always looking for freelance work and enjoy meeting new people for friendship and fun.

Jeanne Carey

I am an Architect designing a library in Northern Ireland where I try to extend my work travel to explore Europe. Both at work and at play I like to make things. I am constantly trying new media. I have blown glass, welded steel, and made platinum photographic prints. I own a 150 year old cottage with a short walk from the ocean in Marblehead where I have lived for ten years. I ski in the winter, kayak in the summer, and basically do all the things people say they don't have time for because I have no TV.

Laurie Carlson

Design Consultant at Circle Furniture in Cambridge, Extreme Textile Artist specializing in optical lighting fiber sculpture. Likes sun and moon, NASA expeditions, action adventure & history movies, most music especially jazz. Single but looking for a dance partner for salsa night.

Diana Cerrone

I am Italian-American of origin and currently work at Tufts School of Medicine as an Editorial Assistant for the journal of Clinical Infectious Diseases.

I majored in International Relations/Economics at Boston University and have lived, studied, worked in varied places around the world such as Russia, Japan, France, and Italy.

My top passions are dance and travel. I have danced since a child including ballet, tap, jazz, etc. I then fell in love with ethnic dance several years back and am currently a member of the Boston Tango Society, Polynesian Dance Arts and a Samba troupe. I also dance salsa, merengue, cha-cha, bachata, etc. I am also a dance traveler and each year travel to a dance congress somewhere in the world.

I love to embrace life and all it has to offer. I love to try new things and this has added to my love of travel. I love traveling to countries with ancient cultures, history, distant Shangri-las, etc. My next itinerary will hopefully include Egypt, Central Asia, Thailand, Bhutan, etc. I also enjoy cooking, the arts, music, reading, hiking, cycling, embracing nature, time alone, contemplation, etc.

I would describe myself as a philosopher and intellectual and very spiritual. I am always open to new ideas and challenges. I enjoy deep and meaningful conversational where I come away feeling as if someone has contributed to my outlook on life, however small it may be, and I have gained something in turn.

David Chan

I graduated from Oxford ('01), where I learned how to drink and hold an intelligent conversation at the same time. I crossed the Atlantic in search of wealth and power in New York City, but took a wrong turn and ended up in grad school in Boston. With another year or two of indentured servitude left, I amuse myself by going to cocktail parties and traveling the world.

In my spare time, when not unraveling the mysteries of light, or studying quantitative finance, I enjoy running, skiing, tennis and golf (I'm always looking for people to do these things with). During times of inclement weather, I opt for cultural events, e.g. classical music and jazz. Rain or shine, I love eating out and going to bars. I've also taken to throwing wine and cheese parties of late.

I'm single, and would like to meet interesting and intelligent women who share some of my hobbies.

I'm somewhat of an amalgam. On Friday evening, I might be DJing a 4 hour set for a party that my friends and I have put together at a popular lounge in the area. On Saturday, I may be hitting a R&B club to kick back and relax to some soothing sounds. And on Sunday, I may be rollerblading down by the Charles or skiing in the backcountry, depending on the weather. That's assuming I stay relatively close to town!!!

I like road trips and now that summer is coming up, I anticipate heading to the beaches at Newport (or the North Shore, although the water is colder there!!!). But when the weather is so-so (not a beach day), I'll probably take road trips to NYC or hop the shuttle to DC for the weekend to check out some of my favorite haunts, whether it be a Brazilian jazz club, the latest exhibit at the new MOMA, or chilling along the National Mall or out by the Potomac. I know DC very well, and I'm just learning about NYC.

But sometimes, I'm just really pooped out from a busy week and I'll just curl up and watch the latest independent/drama/action/adventure flick that happens to catch my fancy. Or, I'll listen to my extensive and diverse CD and iTunes collection (Aimee Mann, Coldplay, Creed, Blue 6, Solar House, Keane, The Corrs, Casey Stratton, to give you an idea of the diverse repertoire of artists I listen to...). And if the Sox are in the post-season, I may try to score some tickets at Fenway or just watch the game on NESN if I can't — okay, I'll confess I wasn't a Sox fan until I saw all the hoopla in 2003 ;-)! I'm a great cook (Yup...I have references! Must be those laboratory skills...luckily I haven't yet messed up any ""recipes"" for experiments and hence caused any major explosions or permanent dismemberments...), but I only cook when I have fun and interesting company :-).

I am an ENTP (by the Myers-Briggs personality test), and I really enjoy making connections with fun people that are curious, want to experience new and unique things, and have a passion for living life as much as I do. I have a career in medicine and science by day, but I try stay well-rounded through my other activities. Anyway, if you think we'd hit it off on a professional or social level, feel free to holler :-)."

Hilary Coolidge

A born and bred New England native that has spent a fair amount of time elsewhere - outside the US, Maine, Utah, Idaho. Gave up the struggling artist life long ago - photography - got a business degree and then ended up in Information Architecture. Don't know what that is? Don't be afraid to ask!

Enjoy intellectual pursuits - l have a love/hate relationship with the New Yorker as I wish I could keep up with it - as well as physical ones - very involved in outdoor activities. Backcountry telemark skiing is a passion of mine and I visit BC as often as I can to take advantage of the great terrain and (usually) snow. Making things is an important creative outlet - sandstone photograph frames, paper lanterns, small, crafty stuff. More info on www.coolhil.com. Live in Cambridge and thinking about getting a doglike cat or a catlike dog. Suggestions?"

Constance Cork

Capitalist and entrepreneur, I help philanthropic organizations achieve their missions by investing their assets. Favorite client moment: meeting a Nobel Prize winner. Favorite client moment yet to happen: tour of the Jet Propulsion Lab. As an entrepreneur, my family business helps individuals and families build their dream homes in Scottsdale, AZ. Not a bad place to have business meetings in the winter, especially if I can fit in a round of golf.

Highly involved with youth-arts organizations from strategy development to fundraising.

I enjoy a wide range of physical and stimulating activities: golf, sailing, waterskiing, cross country skiing, jogging (not running!), boxing, dancing. Love indie films, photography, studying architecture, developing bits for amateur stand-up comedy nights, playing the piano, exploring the world, and great food - especially Thai and Mediterranean. Been known to create a masterpiece or two in the kitchen for dinner parties served, with a side of healthy debate and banter. Learning to play poker - looking for a tutor.

Hit Nantucket each year for relaxation and try to fit it an international trip every other year. New Zealand and the Carpathian Mountains left the most vivid images in my head.

Stephen Costa

I was a bicentennial baby, born and raised in New Hampshire, and love living in New England; after much bouncing from town to town in the region, I currently reside in Topsfield, Massachusetts.

I hold a Master's degree in finance and a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double concentration in mathematics and philosophy, both from Brandeis. Currently, I do financial systems work for one of the science departments there, but am actively looking for something new where I can make better use of my Visual Basic and MS Access skills, preferably with some travel involved.

I like to play golf, volleyball, and softball (among other things, at which I am much more inept). I am something of a computer nerd and cannot resist the siren song of the local Best Buy. I enjoy geocaching, like to visit the New Hampshire Lakes Region, and I'm a Red Sox fan. I enjoy games such as chess or Scrabble. I read mostly books (especially mid-20th century American authors), but if I pick up a magazine when I'm traveling, it's usually something along the lines of ""Scientific American."

I am of French-Canadian, Portuguese, and Irish descent; I'm agnostic; I have a modest libertarian streak. I place the highest value upon honestly, loyalty, integrity, fidelity, and intelligence, both in myself and in others. My sense of humor is typically dry and subdued.

My tastes are eclectic - I like movies ranging from The Graduate to Pi to Spider-Man 2; I enjoy songs by artists as diverse as Aerosmith, Teddy Goldstein, the Goo Goo Dolls, and Tim McGraw; I try not to watch too much TV, but have varied taste in that as well - The Shield, Scrubs, and NewsRadio are my all-time favorites.

Single & looking.

Tricia Craig

Trisha is Executive Director of the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard, where, as she puts it, she "translates Europe for Americans." Not always an easy job with the rather strained state of current transatlantic relations but always interesting, because much of what the Center does is foster dialogues with European leaders as well as support the most up to date work being done on Europe in history and social science. Right now she is interested in the concept of European civil society and the debate over hard power (military - US) and soft power (culture, aid, moral leadership - Europe) And, of course, having a lot of receptions with good wine makes for a rather pleasant work environment, too.

In a previous incarnation at Harvard, Trisha worked in international development, mostly working with countries to alleviate poverty through economic and social development programs. The list of counties where she worked or was posted is long: Special advisor in El Salvador, advisor to Ministry of Finance in China, stints in Nicaragua, Vietnam, Mozambique, Colombia, India, Pakistan, Thailand, etc. Even Trisha's family did not believe the international development story and to this day are convinced she was working for a branch of the government they have never heard of. How else to explain that she was always out of the country when they planned to come visit?

As a grad student at Yale, Trisha studied European politics and wrote her dissertation on political institutions and democratic transitions. Doing a sub-field in demography led her to carry out some work on marital rates across different sectors of the population, that turned into a media blitz. Newsweek proclaimed that the research showed that women over 40 had a better chance of being blown up by a terrorist than getting married (it didn't say that). While the coverage of the story (though not the content of the article which virtually no one bothered to read) earned Trisha the enmity of every public intellectual feminist around, she did have a nice photo and article (cover story) in People magazine and did the round of TV interview shows, which was all in all a fascinating experience. Most surprising to her was the fact that the interviewer from Cosmo was sharp as a tack, while the reporter from Vogue dumb as a post. Trisha's mother, who died recently, always thought it the height of irony that her never-married daughter was writing about other people getting married.

Trisha lives in Cambridge and is currently dog less, but will get a basset hound at some point. She loves horseback riding (and once played polo in the Dominican Republic which is the most fun sport ever and immediately realized how rich people become middle class people because of their addition to the sport), tennis, squash, kayaking, and exotic travel. Trisha considers dinner parties an extreme sport and loves preparing over the top meals for her friends. She grew up on the Main Line of Philadelphia and still has season opera tickets in Philly as well as a little summer house at the Jersey shore that she loves but is, sadly, hardly ever able to get to."

Angel O. Custodio

I look for simplicity and order (of some sort) in most things in life. Considered to be a good listener who is always up and ready for a smart conversation. Things I am fond of include long walks, hiking, music of all kinds, good food, great books, travel and tango. On the other hand I dislike clowns (of any kind) and pretentious people. I am bilingual (English and Spanish) and wishing to expand my language repertoire at any time. Biologist by training; currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Genetics program at Harvard University. The research team I work with studies iron metabolism and its associated diseases. Passionate about cooking, good eats, and all the culture behind these.

My knack for cooking and interest in the food business/industry at large made me decide that my next adventure will be culinary school. Eventually, I would like to put my scientific and culinary skills at the service of food research, also known in the fancy speaking world as culinology - the blending of culinary arts and the science of food. Dreams to fulfill include learning to sail and getting back to SCUBA diving - since I am certified but not close to nice waters for this sport."

Tracey Daley

Physician returning to Boston after several years. Interests include ethnic dining, attending the theatre, working out almost daily at the Sports Club LA, as well as cooking, reading fiction ( contemporary as well as classic), and spending time with friends. I am always up to date with current events (avidly tune in to CNN). As far as movies are concerned, I prefer adventure or comedy, but my all-time favorite genre are the classics starring Bette Davis.

Ruchira Das Gupta

i am a scientist in a startup biotech company, Compound Therapeutics in Waltham. I live in Newton with my husband, Michael Kane. I am an undergrad from Smith College, and have a Ph.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. I love to read fiction.

Who I love — my family (especially my three grown kids), my old friends. What I love — being with those I love, and laughing. What I enjoy — my work, being fit enough to enjoy what I relish, thinking hard, finishing a book, canoeing, tennis, skiing. What I've done — been around the world twice, lived in Paris, NY, California, practiced law on Wall Street, built a small company. What else? — Grew up in Conn., Yale College, Law School at Berkeley, live on Marlborough Street.

Edward Dow

Born and raised in Boston, I have stayed pretty close to the Muddy River (Brookline) and ""that good ole dirty water"" (Charles River) for recreation (rowing) and education (Noble & Greenough School and Harvard College).

I then went down to Boston's now defunct Combat Zone for a medical degree (Tufts) and a real education! (Chinatown). After residency training and research fellowship stints in Chicago, Washington DC, and Seattle. I returned back to the banks of the Charles to MGH (Mass General Hospital or as the doctors there called it ""Man's Greatest Hospital"" but more often called by its nurses ""Mass' Gates to Heaven"" ) to start clinical training/practice.

For the past twelve years I have been affiliated primarily with NE Baptist Hospital where I am a Hematologist-Oncologist in private practice - to my knowledge the only such solo practitioner within the city of Boston. I launched my own practice Boston Hematology-Oncology seven years ago which is dedicated to delivering state -of- the-art care to the patient with cancer or blood diseases in a personal and private office setting. We see, diagnose and treat all types of human cancer except very specialized primary brain tumors. The practice is usually limited to adult patients age 17 and up).

I am a member of the executive Board of the Mass. Society of Clinical Oncologists as well as represent the society on the Interspecialty Committee of the Massachusetts Medical Society. I hold a Clinical Instructorship at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Clinical Professorship in The Physicians Assistant Program of Mass College of Pharmacy as well as admitting and consulting privileges at the Beth Israel Deaconess and Faulkner Hospitals along with those at New England Baptist.

Interests outside of work include rowing/sculling, rock climbing/mountaineering, skiing and sailing with annual summer trips to the Vineyard and the Cascade Mountains in the Pacific Northwest. If not able to immediately engage in those activities - good food and good music (jazz, funk & blues) with friends is always a staple.

Most importantly I am the proud father of adorable five year-old twins (girl-boy). We reside in Milton, Mass."

Javit Drake

I play a lot (socializing; sports: swim, bike, blade, yoga). Work at Gillette — science/engineering R&D for Duracell). Live in Waltham. Travel to NY, San Fran., Ohio, interesting spots US & overseas. Have lived in San Fran, Cleveland, and Yellow Springs, Ohio. Went to university in Berkeley, CA and Cambridge, MA. Ph.D. Have no wife nor kids. Love music, laughing, variety, football, my field of study. Never averaged more than 40-hr/week of work or school, and I never plan to change that.

Karen Dronzek

I am currently working in an unconventional field, that of managing a horse farm and training horses. I work six days a week and that includes weekends, which I don't mind because I love my work. Though a loner much of the time who reads fiction voraciously, I am also drawn to social adventures and love meeting new people to talk over drinks. I have kept journals, written poetry and short stories my whole life and always want to find out other people's stories and motivations. I used to live in Cambridge where I managed fashion retail stores but enjoy having access to the wilds of Thoreau Country where I must wear DEET. The downside to loving my work is the physical fatigue, lack of money and time limits my social endeavors too much.

Some of my favorite fiction writers are: Kevin Patterson, Martin Amis, David Mitchell, Jose Saramago, Don DeLillo, Jerzy Kosinski, Richard Ford, Carol Shields and AL Kennedy. When I am not working, I enjoy every kind of music, more recently blues and jazz, more formerly alternative rock as I used to fantasize about being a rock critic. I did manage a band years ago. I played classical piano for ten years as a teenager and tooled around with the electric bass. I enjoy wine tastings, rollerblading, have done mountain biking, tennis, ice hockey. I love hiking in the fall but rarely go to the beach as my job gives me enough heat and sun most of the time.

Foreign movies I never get to see often enough, and exploring new restaurants and towns is another hobby. In college, I was a studio art major and used to enjoy sketching and painting, mostly abstract expressionist stuff. Now I enjoy occasional photography and strolls through galleries. I was a French minor and read much French literature, also enjoy Russian literature but now I focus mostly on contemporary fiction. Someday I would like to write a novel but have not managed to get it going.

As far as politics and religion, these are two topics I tend to ignore. I was born in England and raised here, baptized Episcopalian but never religious. I understand the power of both subjects and prefer not to get involved. Philosophically I can enter a conversation and see many sides to different subjects; I am happy to say I have an open mind to many things. I like to see gray matter whereas I know many people who see only in terms of black and white. I have a highly visual nature; detail is something I am surprised to see some people fail to notice.

I grew up in fairly privileged situation; after college I found I was never too motivated by money. Some people could call this a lack of ambition, I prefer to view it as non-materialistic. Sure, it would be nice to make more money and have free time but how many hours do we actually spend working? I may as well enjoy it. Therefore, I am not enjoying a very large salary right now and have to pick and choose my social adventures. Living in Lexington, driving to the city can sometimes be a chore. Sometimes I relish driving farther away from home.

Many of my peers are still very eager to pursue a meaningful relationship with one significant other, with goals of marriage and perhaps kids. I am noticing a new trend of people who distrust marriage as an institution and though they enjoy meaningful relationships, the goals and parameters are slowly changing, I believe in monogamous relationships but am not sure about marriage and am pretty sure I am not interested in having children. At least, not at this time. My main goal in life is to be honest with myself and others, and not to be bored.

Marlena Erdos

Originally from ISRAEL, I moved to the states in the mid 80s. I love Boston and will be practicing law here starting Nov. A ski bunny at heart, I also love sushi, dancing and hosting :) I am an extensive traveler, have been all over South Asia, parts of Europe, and will be hitting South America this year. Always up for an adventure. My future goals are to own a Spa and finish a Masters at Harvard for Urban Planning or get a Real Estate Development Masters at MIT.

Marlena Erdos

Marlena is an expert in secure distributed computing systems, but ever since getting the writing/performing bug she has been risking her career. She now free-lances as a consultant to large corporations so that she has time to write, do stand up comedy, sing, play team sports, and get to know more of the many fascinating people that reside in the Boston area. And though it is not at all secure, Marlena enjoys getting around town by bicycle.

Among her geek accomplishments, Marlena is the co-author of The Java Security Reference Model (under the name Marlena Erdos). She's worked for a number of the leading software corporations in the world, helping to advance the state of the art in the field of identity management, access control, and privacy. Most recently, Marlena worked on the security and privacy of radio frequency identification systems ("RFID") for IBM, doing analysis, system design, and also policy development.

In her life as Marlena Merrin, Marlena has performed stand up at a number of local watering holes as well as parties. Two of her short plays have been read at the Arlington "New Theatre Works Festival." She was a guest performer in Improv Boston's ""Radio Days"" where she performed her monologue on averting disaster, mastering appliances - and her mother. She performed her short solo piece "Cat Like A Dog"" at Celebration Barn in 2003. Most recently, Marlena has been writing songs, inspired by her work with Cheap Trills a musical improv group she co-founded in the Fall of 2003.

Other details: Marlena loves humor and lively conversation. She particularly enjoys the odd angle, the unexpected perspective, the piece of information that makes her see a situation in a new and different way.

Marlena has an Sc.B. in Electrical Engineering from Brown University, as well as further education in computer science, acting, improv, singing, and standup. She hopes to continue her education in comedically-related arts.

She lives in Somerville, Massachusetts along with her beloved laptop computer, which is even cuter than James' dog."

Director of Channels and Partnerships, Americas and Asia Pacific, OutStart Software. Grew up in Cleveland, college in California, moved to Boston for business school in 1980. In software consulting, sales and marketing for 20 years, and love it. Live in Weston, with 2 great children half-time. Love dancing (Johnny D's, Ryles), theater (Rent, Producers), concerts (Buffet, Sting, Alison Krauss), golf, tennis, skiing, throwing parties and international travel.

I am a software sales professional and father of my daughter (17) and son (14). I was born in Honolulu, grew up in Cleveland and am still very close to my parents and sisters.

My parents live in Florida 8 months and Cleveland 4 months of the year, and we play golf, bridge and other games together, dine out and enjoy being together with my children and sisters. My sisters both live in San Francisco, and I visit them during my frequent business trips there. Linda Glazer

I was born and bred in New England but love to roam and have new experiences. My travels include living in an ashram in India, swimming with dolphins in the wild in the Bahamas and participating in personal growth workshops in Europe, California, New York and Massachusetts.

I was certified in two types of bodywork as well as breath work and laughter yoga. I've had numerous jobs which have included singing telegram messenger, entertainer, bodyworker, playshop leader, PR and fundraising, real estate and aerobics instructor.

One of my dreams is to perform a musical-comedy-tragedy about my life (have written 8 minutes so far). Another is to leave my current employ, buy an RV, a big dog and travel across the country.

I love music, adventures, dogs, nature, sharing good meals with friends. My values involve authentic connections which may be spiritual, playful, sensual, romantic or all of the above. I would love to meet others who share some of these interests as well as their own with me.

Sara Graziano

Sara Graziano is an associate at Charles River Associates and currently has an office on each side of the Charles. At CRA, Sara is a member of the Energy and Environment practice group, and most of her work relates to analyzing wholesale electricity markets. Because electricity is a commodity that must be produced and consumed at literally the same instant, projecting electricity prices and power plant operations presents unique challenges. In addition to helping manage and develop CRA's capability to simulate electricity market fundamentals, Sara has made significant contributions to CRA's mathematical modeling of volatility in electricity markets and the interaction between electricity prices and the prices of inputs such as natural gas. Her recent assignments have included preparing valuations of power generating portfolios for use in contract litigation and bankruptcy proceedings, and advising clients on generating asset purchases throughout North America.

Far from her current overpriced Boston apartment, Sara grew up on a farm in rural northwest Ohio, and at the age of 12 she had her own tractor. She has fond memories of her menagerie of pets and of summers spent fishing and swimming in Lake Erie. Sara maintains a diverse set of interests that are reflected in the unique assortment of periodicals she regularly reads, including The Economist, Foreign Affairs, The New Yorker, Wine Spectator, and Motor Trend. She enjoys traveling (particularly road trips), and is often out of town for business or personal excursions. On the rare occasions when Sara isn't working and/or traveling, she can often be found at the gym.

Love biking and the outdoors; movies and restaurants; live jazz and world music (and, in general, just about all music.) Sketchy dancer who loves to dance; sketchy tennis player who loves to play. Up for instructions in both: no problem at all if you're way better than I am. Live and work in Somerville the 9 months of the year I'm not on the road. Ex political activist and still political junkie-definitely from the left.

Jenny Gutbezhal

Eclectic, that's me. I work at PERG, a soft-money research unit at Lesley University, helping people create educational programs in math & science. I teach social psychology at Harvard Extension School. I love theater, both watching and performing. I throw lots of parties, brew beer, and obsessively solve (and occasionally create) crossword puzzles. I try to see live music at least once a week. I adore dancing. I'm learning swing, and I'm not afraid to make a fool of myself on the dance floor.

Dianne Haas

I'm a native Midwesterner who relocated to New England many years ago. I'm not sure what this really means, but I can usually spot a fellow Midwesterner....even those who have lost their accent! I like to think that we Midwesterners are an interesting mix of sophistication coupled with a lack of pretension....but I suppose that, in itself, would be a pretentious thought!

I've had an extremely eclectic career. What follows are some highlights (not in chronical order): Restaurant, Killington, VT; Photographer/Photography Gallery/Photo Lab, Wellfeet, MA; Public Affairs PR Director for several NYSE companies; Music Producer/Promoter, Lenox, MA, Music Festival Producer, Great Barrington, MA; Off-Broadway Theatre Producer, NYC; PR/Marketing Director, Huntington Theatre Company; Restaurant, So. Bristol, Maine; Architectural Designer (Interiors), Boston; Producer, Boston Tango Festival, Boston.....and lots more! In my spare time, I'm writing a musical theatre piece. I'm not sure what's ahead, but just thinking about the unlimited possibilities is an exciting thought.

Travel has always been an important theme in my life, and I've been to many countries. I particularly love traveling to "off the beaten path" places: Favorites so far are Ljubjlana, Slovenia, and Kosice, Slovakia. Also, love Buenos Aires (a "beaten path" but wonderful, nevertheless!). Although I speak some Spanish, I'm trying to become fluent, with the intention of living in Buenos Aires for an extended period of time.

Love to dance....and have a background in jazz and modern dance....Lately, I've become involved in Tango and would be happy to teach anyone who is interested! Also, I'm always looking for a practice partner, so if anyone is a strong intermediate or advanced tango dancer, please contact me!

I have a house on the coast of Maine which I spent several years restoring. ( I actually moved up there for 2 years and did much of the work myself.) It's an historic 1800's Dance Hall, and has been featured in "Coastal Living Magazine" and HGTV's "Building Character.

Finally, I have one awesome son, who is about to become a graduate architectural student at MIT. He's also a talented musician, athlete, artist....and a wonderful human being. My ultimate accomplishment! No contest....Nothing can compare to successfully raising a child, and thoroughly enjoying his/her company through all stages of development!

I practice and teach Svaroopa yoga because it makes me feel healthy and grounded. I believe if you don't have your health you have nothing. Eating healthy, and taking care of my body and mind are priorities for me (as well as spending time with my family). I love to be mentally challenged and stimulated by intelligent & interesting conversation among people who appreciate culture and diversity as much as I do. I am most impressed by those who have a passion for life, are not afraid to express genuine thoughts & feelings, and by those who have developed a solid sense of themselves. Lastly, I love to dance and be around people who also love to dance!

Candace Hopkins

Coming from very talented and intelligent parents, all of my siblings and I (there are six of us) had some artistic gift(s), and one brother was MENSA material. My talents were sports (soccer, basketball and volleyball), acting, dancing and singing.

I found my way to the drama club when I was 14 and never looked back. Theater was the main theme in my life for the next 30 years. I performed in some truly amazing productions, both musical and non-musical, of which I am very proud. Dream roles I have played included Kate Gerome in Brighton Beach Memoirs, Mother Superior in Nunsense, Guido's Mother in Nine, Bananas in House of Blue Leaves, and Flora in 27 Wagons full of Cotton. I have also directed several very successful and well received shows over the years.

Though I still love to perform, my focus began to shift from the theatrical to the metaphysical to the spiritual when I was in my mid-30s and personal growth (both taking workshops and volunteering as an assistant) began to take more time than theater. I am currently involved in an amazing meditation practice that incorporates music, dancing and emotional releasing as part of the meditation. I volunteer manage the Space in which my group meditates, renting it out to other personal and spiritual growth organizations. From the banquet of personal and spiritual growth organizations, favorites dishes have been Insight Seminars, Landmark Education, Sterling Women's Weekend and the Miracle of Love Intensive.

By day I love working as a graphic designer at a travel incentive company. It feeds right into my love of travel, both foreign and domestic. I am blessed with some truly wonderful friends and a great family. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, they rallied around me and helped me through what turned out to be not only one of the toughest times of my life, but also the best. So many silver linings - I was in love (we have since stopped dating and are best of friends, but he stuck with me all through it!), I found out how much I am loved by the people in my life, I learned that I have a very beautiful head (sans hair) and that I have more courage than I ever gave myself credit for.

Today I am cancer free, spiritually soaring, emotionally healthy, physically stable, and mentally challenged, oops, I mean, mentally strong. Fun, funny, fat, fabulous, full of life, and ready to find a long term relationship that is stimulating on all levels." Natalie Hoppel A Tax Attorney with a personality working in downtown Boston. Graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Obtained the perfunctory political science degree and threw in a French major for fun. Voracious reader of well-written fiction; enjoy running, frustrating rounds of golf with my trusty seven iron, and desperately want to row on the Charles again. Love Newport Beach, Napa and London. Eagerly awaiting news that the marital status of Mr. Page 2, Bill Simmons, has changed. Convinced that I can open a successful winery in New England with Frontenac Grapes from the University of Minnesota.

Attila Kondacs

I am recent PhD from MIT in artificial intelligence. Single Hungarian male. Used to be a businessman, have an MSc in economics from the University of Cambridge, and another one in mathematics from Budapest.

I have a growing set of ideas that I am looking to commercialize. I am searching for potential investors, business partners, teammates. Ideally, i would like to set up an idea factory; that is, a for profit research organization that makes money by ideas/intellectual property, and by spinning out companies based on its findings.

Currently there are two ideas that are ready to take off as start-ups: one is a revolutionary ergonomic chair design, the other is a new technology to teach foreign languages. There are a number of ideas that require further development in the following areas:

  1. a new approach to learning patterns in temporal data streams (application: time series analysis in finance).
  2. mixed time- and frequency-domain signal processing for non-stationary signal analysis (applications include robust speech recognition and synthesis, speaker identification, cardiac diagnosis)
  3. a new type of computer interface (possible application: could make the widespread SMS typing much easier in Japan and China).

And there are other ideas still germinating.

Fred Konopka

Me in a nutshell: I'm a Quant, as in quantitative equity analyst, and I enjoy what I do for a living. Dartmouth undergrad, MIT Sloan MBA. My passions in life are sports, music, and animals. Sports: I like playing games with ""sticks and balls"": mostly golf, also softball, tennis, billiards, and bowling. I also enjoy low-key downhill skiing and biking, as well as spectator sports, especially baseball and football. Music: I play acoustic guitar and sing, and enjoy catching live music at large or small venues. My CD, sheet music, and ticket stub collections are split between rock and country/folk. Animals: I am owned by a cat; I also love dogs. Single and looking, never married.

Fred Koschara

I'm an ambitious entrepreneur, a dreamer bent on profitably turning my dreams into reality, and I'm also quite single, looking for a slim woman inclined to skirts rather than pants. I've been a computer programmer for too long; my real ambition is to build a privately funded space program and move off-planet, making (lots of) money in the process - see L5 Development.com for more information. I know more about winDoze and how it works - or doesn't work - than most people I know, and I'm now working with FreeBSD and Linux. I own a Web hosting company, and I do Web development (having gotten practice building those sites of the 44 domains I own which are finished).

I'm a photographer with experience in both film and digital media. I build furniture, and have fixed more cars than I would care to count; I'm skilled with lots of different sorts of tools. I get most of my exercise through a vigorous form of dancing I call ""technorobics"" - aerobic dancing to techno music. I'm an honest, responsible individual, and place great value on personal integrity; I'm a practicing philosopher, which is part of the reason I don't drive any more. I was born on Long Island, NY, and went to high school south of Rochester when my parents moved upstate the summer I was between fifth and sixth grade. I came to Boston to go to college, and left MIT after a year and a half primarily for financial reasons. Although I've been in 39 states, and lived in Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, New Hampshire, and the Rochester, NY area, I keep coming back to Boston because it's the place that seems most like home.

I almost never watch TV (generally less than about six hours a year - not counting time spent watching DVD movies), although I do have some interest in doing video and/or movie production. I have read a lot of science fiction, but it seems now all I have time to read is technical books. I consider ""professional sports"" to be an oxymoron; if I'm going to a baseball game, *I* am going to play. ...and I can cook.

Chris Kreis

I run a small medical software business in Cambridge. I enjoy working very hard at it. I like that there is no limit to the amount of intensity I can channel in to it. I enjoy the flexibility being my own boss affords me. I like the challenge, the competition, and the opportunity to be continuously creative both short and long term. I like making my way through uncharted waters. I like strategizing and planning, and really enjoy working with my employees. It is a real world game.

Outside of the business, I like the outdoors, hiking, skiing, swimming, sailing. I like to play soccer and hockey. I have little interest in televised sports or sporting events with the occasional exception of the Olympics (watching sports on TV once every 2 years is just about right!). I like acting. I like the arts, and particularly like to see the performances or works of my friends. I love TV so much, I had to get rid of mine. I love movies of all sorts, including documentaries about just about anything. I even have a weakness for rock-umentaries. I like to read and write and sometimes I like to play my trumpet. I like variety. Travel. Scuba diving. People. Conversation. The New York Times. Dilbert. Doonesbury. Wine, bread, cheese, olives, coffee, soup, oysters & chocolate.

I am over schooled but not academic. I attended the University of Michigan, Cornell Medical School, and did a post doc in "Medical Informatics" at Harvard.

I generally believe that the world's problems are not best approached through grass roots solutions, but rather through creating infrastructure and changing the system, within reason. I am a moderate. I think other people should be more moderate too! On most issues, I think there is typically validity in the arguments of both sides. To deal with this, I wish we had a more direct democracy. My votes go to mountains, oceans, lakes, trees, sky & moon. Sun's ok too, but a little in your face at times..."

Craig Lambert

I'm a graduate of Harvard ('69) and also earned a Ph.D. there in sociology. I work as an editor and writer at Harvard Magazine in Cambridge. Have published one book, Mind Over Water; Lessons on Life from the Art of Rowing (Houghton Mifflin, 1998), which was happily enough, nominated for a Pulitzer. I mingle well.

I have worked for companies such as Unisys, IBM, Cabletron, and finally settled in Massachusetts to work for Oki Systems a Japanese company. I enjoy playing almost all sports and like to ski, bike, hike, dance, swim, work out and watch movies. My interests are varied and include traveling, ethnic dining, investing, discussing philosophy and politics, and theater to name a few. Some of the ethnic foods I've had are Afghani, Ethiopian, Korean, Thai, Japanese, Turkish, Chinese, Italian, Moroccan, French, German, Russian, Cambodian, Brazilian, Mexican, and Middle Eastern. The most exotic place I've been so far outside of the United States is Istanbul, Turkey. In the United States, my favorite place is Washington DC because there are so many interesting things to do there. It also gives me an excuse to visit some family members who reside there. I love all pets, especially dogs and cats. Single and looking.

Current Management position as a member of a Trauma Team- challenging & patient/teaching focused. Tremendous job satisfaction most days-making a difference. Have held numerous nursing positions in the field of medicine & surgery over the years including Cardiothoracic Surgery, Oncology & Orthopedics & Pediatrics. Employed at two of the prestigious Medical Centers in the area. Often necessary to travel to attend seminars/conferences in this area of expertise to stay current & competent. Always networking professionally & personally. My work is a life altering, grounding, humbling experience with vivid awareness of human vulnerabilites & the importance to live life in the present moment. Appreciative of the simple things in life.

Personal: Single & looking. Sharing my life with two wonderful sons, one-21 & in college the other-17 with one more year of High School & then college. I'm very happy & proud of the young men they have become. Homeowner finally completing home remodeling projects, living in suburbia looking to relocate closer to the Boston area-love Boston culture, theatre, dinner in the North End, jazz in the open cafes & the stimulation of youth.

Intelligence & good conversation stimulates me. More spiritual than religious but aware all too often of my Catholic upbringing. More of an extroverted personality & enjoy gatherings both on a grand scale & small intimate good friend/family get-togethers. Intelligent, articulate, imaginative with a desire to connect with others who wish to share a mature, reciprocating relationship which is filled with the light of truth, the joy of sharing, and the bountiful energy of passion (synergy).

Passions & Interests: All types of music; Great love of the intrigue and the depth of life; love exploring, opening to new vistas and adventures, learning and sharing. Always looking to learn & understand the mysteries of life & why people do what they do. Love art, creative expression and consciousness & think of it not only as a hobby, but as a place to turn to for reflection, refreshment and renewal. Love to travel-went to Paris last year with a friend-beautiful! Great place for romance & love. Next trip will be for romance & love! Love to be outdoors so outdoor activities are preferable to indoor activities. I seem to gravitate to the ocean, savor the smells sights, sounds & feel of summer at the ocean. Swing dancing is great fun. I'm interested in learning the Argentine Tango, & salsa that have that sensual language without words. I would love a steady dance partner. My weekends usually include some dancing for the enjoyment of it & to practice what I've learned.

Appreciate good food & fine wine. Dislike overcooked asparagus. Cooking is a passion but have gotten a bit away from it. I am a sensualist in many ways & the sensory delights of food are all too good at stimulating the palate & the imagination as well. Preparing & cooking a meal provides the chance to pause, to linger, to daydream, to fantasize over visual, tactile, & fragrant stimuli. Cooking & preparing a meal can & should be an intimate experience. Still looking to cook Chateaubriand with Cabernet Sauvignon Sauce or Bernaise if that's preferred for/with someone worthy of sharing that experience! Perhaps it.s my French nationality surfacing that makes food so pleasurable!

Love to read but don't seem to have as much time as I would like to for this hobby. Currently reading Deepak Chopra: ""The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire"" Harnessing the Infinite Power of Coincidence...fascinating! & also Barbara Ravage: ""Burn Unit"" Saving Lives After the Flames. The book is based on research in Boston Hospitals. An interesting & informed documentary. I love audio books as well. This is a good use of time when traveling to learn something new-trying to learn Spanish with a medical focus, or just listening to a good suspenseful drama.

I would love to connect with others on both a professional &/or social level who share varied interests like mine or with those whose interests differ than mine. It would be great to experience new interests & skills. I'd love to learn how to sail if anyone is looking for an attentive student. If you are a wine connoisseur I would love to speak with you. Enjoy wine tastings to learn more about fine wines. Hope to someday own a home on the ocean."

Somervillian who is active in local politics. Claims specialist at a law firm, office manager at the Somerville Arts Council. Shameless facts about me: I own a crock pot and I use it, I've bought things for Halloween costumes and made them part of my regular wardrobe, I have never played a video game, I still have a crush on Jim Kerr of Simple Minds, I'm obsessed with reading the paper every day.

Christopher Lee

I am an oxymoron, a completely modernized technocrat who is also a Renaissance man, fluent in many languages and excelling in long-dead ones (the deader the better), so that he can have something to talk about at parties like this. I enjoy ice hockey (both playing and watching), sailing, wine and cheese, all kinds of music, and the study and practice of psychology and counseling.

Patti Levin

I've been a psychologist since the age of 13. Much more successful these days! Private practice in Cambridge where I also live. Divorced. Ambivalent relationship with Match.com (DrPJL). Adore my grown kids: 2 sons and 2 step-daughters (one is a personal fitness trainer at LA Sports Club), 2 god daughters (I collect kids), love (in no particular order) all animals especially dogs & horses, mystery novels, NY Times crossword puzzles, strong coffee, a glass of Port, Astanga yoga, sailing, Scrabble, intense conversations about almost anything meaningful, my dear friends and family, the Northern Italian Riviera & Tuscany, Paris, the Trieves where my sister lives, Maui, the Taj Mahal, safari in Botswana & S. Africa. Endlessly fascinated by people, I'm an incurable optimist. I believe in love and chaos. Never bored, I can fall into the back of my head and travel around. I'm passionate, sunny, warm, loving, enthusiastic, sensual, authentic, confident and actually also humble ;-). Humor is essential, so is honesty, integrity, generosity of spirit, mutuality, affection and sensuality, the ability to take responsibility for one's ""stuff"" and be open to growing, I can be silly or serious, seriously smart, laugh at myself. I'm easy-going and gentle, can be intense but never unkind. I can stay in connection even during conflict, am turned on by ideas and conversation, as well as chemistry. I love being alone, but live in a peopled world."

My company American Holt manufactures the machine parts that wrap your Smartees, make your Peeps, decorate your Pop Tarts, bag your Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies, put the crème in your Oreos, size your Lay's potato chips, sort your Godiva chocolates, inject the lipstick into your tube, sterilize your corned beef, wrap your lollypops, label your Coca Cola, fold your envelopes and process your federal tax refund check among other things. I have more frequent flier miles than I can use in one lifetime and I have a shiny new bicycle.

I'm not sure there is a typical way to describe myself. I have both a B.S. degree in Finance and Ph.D. in Medieval History from Boston College. I teach at a local university in the History Department as part of the Adjunct Faculty and work as an Educational Consultant in the school's Learning Center. I am Vice President, Director of Brand Strategy for White Rhino, an advertising agency based in Burlington, MA. My professional background prior to White Rhino was four years as a business strategy consultant with The Boston Consulting Group. I was a Finance major at the University of Massachusetts Amherst ('95) where I partied like a fiend, and later attended Harvard Business School ('99) where I stressed out for one year, and then resumed partying like a fiend. Tennis was the focus of most of my childhood, and I later competed on the UMass tennis team...never became good enough to fulfill my dream of playing professionally, so I became a working stiff instead. Actually, I've come to really enjoy business strategy in recent years, and I find that I spend quite a bit of my free time advising friends who are business owners. So it's become more of an interest rather than just a profession. Politics is another area of interest which could very well turn into a career change down the road. Generally, I live a very active and fast-paced lifestyle, and love to experience new adventures...like James Mitchell's parties

American with a bit of Italian, German and Panamanian. Engineer by day, chocolate women by night. Attended Tufts undergraduate and now work at MIT Lincoln Laboratory as an aerospace engineer. I am an owner and a founder of Be Dipped - we rent chocolate fountains. Yummy!

I live on a boat at Longwharf with my boyfriend Eric. Not much room for 'a lot of stuff.'

I enjoy boating, tennis, golf, skiing, running, exotic cars, wine tasting and international cuisine. I also enjoy meeting new people and sharing good conversation.

I have a curiosity to learn about different cultures. I've enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and hope to continue exploring internationally. I consider the Northeast home but I hope to relocate to a warmer climate in the next couple of years. Florida is stuck in my head. New England is great: quaint, charming, full of history and a lot of fun but the winters are too cold for me!"

Stephanie Lustgarten

"I am a happily transplanted New Yorker who loves Boston and it's proximity to the mountains (skiing is how I get through these New England winters), lakes, and beaches. I enjoy skiing, golf, traveling — locally and globally — watching baseball, wines, reading, and dining with friends.

I work as a biostatistician for a pharmaceutical company in Cambridge...a profession that is as numerically-inclined as it sounds and that I enjoy very much. I went to college at Cornell in Ithaca and then graduate school at the University of Michigan, and upon graduation realized I am really a Northeast kind of gal at heart. I moved to Boston in 2000 and still get lost no less frequently than once a month trying to negotiate the streets of the ""Hub""...which I guess is to be expected when you live in a city with an intersection of Tremont and Tremont!

I live in the Fort Hill section of Roxbury, which is a lovely and historic neighborhood of Boston - my moving there also represented my first foray into homeownership, a concept that I still find a bit daunting! I am single and looking."

I transplanted myself to Boston eight years ago after spending my formative years in CT and living a couple years in Palm Beach. I enjoy my work as an audiologist, because I meet and problem solve with all types of people. Good fitness and nutrition are important to me. I enjoy a variety of out door activities, such as, cycling (mtn or road) inline skating, cross country skiing. I also enjoy visual and fine arts. I've traveled and am looking forward to traveling some more. I would like to become proficient in Spanish. One more thing.... Did I mention that I'm single and looking? Was raised in the Unitarian Universalist. Have good solid values. One of the companies I work with has the Golden Rule as their moto. Do you remember this from when you were a kid?

David McAdams

David is Assistant Professor of Economics at MIT Sloan School of Management where he teaches MBA courses in microeconomics and game theory. The new course that he has created, "Game Theory for Managers", is especially popular. David is what other economists refer to as a "theorist", someone who develops the basic models that others apply and test with data from the real world. On this front, most of David's work has focused on strategic price-setting games such as bargaining and auctions.

Prior to joining the Sloan faculty in Fall 2001, David received his PhD in Business and Masters in Statistics from Stanford University. His dissertation was titled "Essays in Multi-Unit Auction Theory." In 1999, David took a year off from school and joined the Federal Trade Commission as Special Assistant to the Director, Bureau of Economics. There he acted as one of the few bridges between the economists and the lawyers at the FTC as they investigated a variety of mergers and other activities.

Unlike his wife Lesley, David never expected his career to be in business. He did not read the Wall Street Journal in high school. As a young boy he loved nothing more than math problems and puzzles, and entered just about every competition possible. Indeed, while Lesley is an excellent triathlete, David once entered (and won!) the California state "TriMathlon." He was also named as a finalist for the US Math Olympic Team and the US Physics Olympic Team.

Singing has been another passion throughout David's life. As a soprano with the California Boys' Choir, a counter-tenor with the Harvard Glee Club, a male alto with the Stanford Early Music Singers, and now a male alto with the Park Street Church Choir, David has always and will always love to sing.

David and his wife Lesley been happily married since May 2000. They support a variety of community projects, ranging from the Museum of Fine Arts and the New England Aquarium to the missionary work of the Park Street Church. They are happily married and share their Davis Square home with possibly the fluffiest domestic cat in the Boston area, Wendell."

Lesley McAdams

Lesley is an associate analyst at Cambridge Place Investment Management, a fixed income hedge fund and CDO management company based in London and Concord, Massachusetts. She has worked for CPIM since graduating from MIT Sloan in May, 2004 with an M.B.A. and concentration in Financial Engineering. Her previous education includes a bachelors from Stanford University in Economics and advanced coursework in statistics.

Prior to entering Sloan, and taking a one year hiatus to rebuild a 100 year old house, Lesley worked at a small telecommunications reseller and politically active company called Working Assets. There she managed two employees and performed statistical analysis on customer behavior both on the long distance product and the "internet mall" Working Assets had set up.

Lesley has long been focused on a business career and indeed started her first company, selling weevils to her classmates in school for $0.25, in the 4th grade. (This turned out to be illegal). She too read The Wall Street Journal as a teenager.

Currently Lesley is active in her community through the Junior League of Boston and the Museum of Fine Arts Museum Council Fellows. Though she spent 12 years as a Synchronized Swimmer for Stanford and on the National Team, she now enjoys participating in triathlons in and around the Boston area.

Lesley and her husband David have been happily married since May 2000 and share their newly renovated home with possibly the largest domestic cat in the Boston area, Wendell."

Intrepid traveler living far from my home country of New Zealand; recently left corporate America to start my own company in the fashion industry; have lived in nine countries over the last couple of decades but have chosen Boston as the place to put down roots; I love parties and throw really great ones myself; travel has always been a passion - I think nothing of getting on a plane to go and explore a new part of the world; love Boston's restaurants but only if they include New Zealand wines on the wine list, the ART, the river and the harbour; happiest when at the beach or on a boat; am partial to the mountains too.

"The single most important ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people." — Theodore Roosevelt

Abraham Morgentaler

I am a urologist who specializes in male reproductive and sexual issues (Dr. Viagra?), but my real professional rewards come when I can make people open their minds to new ways of thinking. Maybe that's true in my personal life too, and after all, perhaps we make too much of a distinction between the personal and professional lives we lead anyway.

I'm originally from Montreal, but came to the area to attend Harvard College, and then never left the Harvard system, attending medical school here, then doing my residency here, and am now part of the Harvard Medical School faculty, involved in teaching the residents and medical students about my specialty areas of male sexuality and reproduction. It is great fun to have the responsibility to lecture the med students on this subject — it's like Sex Ed 201: The Advanced Class!

I've written a couple of "popular"" books." The first was The Male Body: A Physician's Guide to What Every Man Should Know About His Sexual Health, published in 1993, and more recently, The Viagra Myth: The Surprising Impact on Love and Relationships, published in October 2003. I garnered a lot of publicity for this last one, appearing on NPR and CBS Evening News, CNN's Anderson Cooper among others. I confess that I enjoy expressing myself to a large audience!

I have been successfully married and am now successfully divorced (amicable terms all around), with two lovely daughters, 14 and 11 (as of 2004), who live with me part-time in Chestnut Hill."

I'm a gentle periodontist working in Back Bay...if you need implants I can help (dental implants, that is). My alternative dream profession is archaeology. Enjoy going to museums, symphony and theatre, really like modern dance. Play the piano and studying French. Love cooking, one day I'll be a Cordon Bleu Chef, for now I eat out frequently. Interested in world affairs, read and travel a lot, really enjoy discovering new places and getting exposed to different cultures. I'm a non-serious runner enjoy out door activities, member of SCLA(you'll never see me there), thinking about picking up golf and sailing.

Jesse Needleman

I'm an eternal optimist with a healthy sense of realism. A fan of anything cultural, from art and architecture to live music to film and photography to Red Sox games (proud season ticket holder). I grew up in Boston (born here in 1978), have spent virtually my entire life in and around the city, and every year find the thought of leaving even more unappealing, despite the weather. I did the bulk of my growing up in high school at BB&N in Cambridge, and then moved a bit farther East in Cambridge where I spent my undergrad years at Harvard studying Economics and Art and Architectural History. I was a strategy consultant before getting my MBA at MIT Sloan in 2005, where my studies focused on strategic Marketing. I now love my career in Media/Entertainment, but always try to maintain a healthy balance with the fun parts of life. I aspire to be a CMO some day and am interested in the intersection of media and marketing, and how marketing can influence new product development.

I keep active playing tennis, golf, running or skiing. I love spending a relaxing evening out with friends, over dinner, at a concert, a lounge, a movie or even a bowling alley. But you can also find me at home after work cooking up a meal, watching TV (Seinfeld reruns, 24, Survivor) or listening to music while reading a book. My intellectual interests are quite varied, and I often find myself reading biographies, historical non-fiction and fiction, long novels and Eastern philosophy (especially Confucianism). I'm forever trying to learn Italian, but never have enough time; I'd also love to learn to play some new musical instruments, especially the drums and the electric bass. Travel is a must - I love spending time on the beach or in Europe. My favorite spots include Rome (I've been three times and most recently spent a month there in winter 2005) and the Caribbean. My musical tastes are really varied, including (among others) Reggae, Jazz, Classical, Classic Rock, Old School Hip Hop, World Music and even some hippie music. My favorite artists include Kandinsky, Renoir, Sargent, Morisot and Boccioni. I'm a Classical, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture buff. Top authors on my list are David Foster Wallace, Henry James, Tom Wolfe, Umberto Eco and Homer. While this all may sound a bit intense or serious, believe me, I know how to goof off, relax and have a good time.

I pride myself on being a good listener, always on time, loyal and reliable, and continually in search of ways of improving myself. I've been told I have a memory like a steel trap, but somehow seem to have a little trouble remembering names. I'd love to get a dog, but haven't worked up the nerve to actually go and get one yet. I am single (as of May 2005) and would love to find a suitable partner in crime. Feel free to find me on Friendster or TheFacebook.com. Oh, and my Myers-Briggs is INTJ."

Interests, favorite things: I've always been fascinated by the politics and cultures of different lands, ever since childhood. For pleasure I like to read about the geography and history of different countries and cultures. I have also traveled to many of the places which interest me and have taken many photographs. Most recently, summer 2004, I spent several weeks in Peru. In addition to the more intellectually oriented interests, I am into running (around 3-4X/week), swimming in the summer, hiking and backpacking, and sailing. Musical tastes: rather eclectic; however, I am a huge fan of Afropop Music which is the popular music from the continent of Africa with all its different genres. Check out www.afropop.org. For work, I am an Investigator for the U.S. Government in a civil rights law enforcement agency.

When you think about how men and women come together do you get excited about all the wonderous possibilities?

When our eyes meet and we experience in the depth of our gaze that spark, that fire that begins to spread a warm and glow through your body exactly the way you love it to go...that lets you know, this is right, this feels fantastic...you want more of this..now with me...that's what makes the adventure so delightful.

Are you ready to experience the full range of joys and pleasures that men & women can share together?...To what amazing islands of adventure will we go together..I see a private hot tub, the beach and sun, mountain streams, laughs over diner with friends, a hot night of dancing, traveling to an exotic place, an exciting gala downtown event, romantic evenings by the fireplace, the quiet get-away of a cabin love nest.

Or do you like to explore places in the mind that gently expand the possibilities of who you are and what we can experience?

I'm wondering... If you are the woman who has the courage to explore her capacity for adventure, passion & fun..With me, this is what makes the adventure of man & woman so incredibly rewarding, infinitely delicious, playfuland fun.

"Ph.D. in Cognitive and Neural Systems. Reality is all in your mind. Entrepreneur in search of the next great idea. Mind if I steal yours? Baseball nut. Favorite movie: Dr. Strangelove, favorite book: An American Tragedy, favorite building in Boston: the Boston Public Library. Things I like: walking around Boston on a nice day, spending time with friends, listening to loud rock music, most major sports. Things I hate: people that are more selfish than I am, pretentious artists and people that confuse ability with talent, and descriptive name tags."

Thein H. Oo

I am originally from Burma, a country with many paradoxes. I grew up there and looking back, I still have little idea how I have ended up in the US. Maybe, that's karma.

I took part in the anti-military government demonstrations in 1988 which were bloodily crushed down. Guess what!! Over 10,000 people were killed. I graduated from a medical school in Burma in 1991. In 1993, I left Burma for UK, where I was a medical resident for the next 3 1/2 years. When an american hospital hired me as a resident, I came here, partly fulfilling my wishes of meeting some of my relatives in US. Again, after finishing training, I was offered a Faculty position ( Assistant Professor ) at Tufts University Medical School. My employer is Caritas St Elizabeth's Medical Center of Boston and I specialize in cancer and blood diseases.

So, my personality has been greatly influenced by where I have lived. Sometimes, you may see Burmese style ( friendliness & generosity ), sometimes British sense of humor and sometimes American ingenuity and creativity and the ability to work hard. Within an hour, you may see different personality traits. Well, it's just me. Be myself.

Nurses often called me 007 as my last name is OO. Double ""O"" stands for the license to kill, which is normally granted to the British secret agents. What a contradiction to my profession.

I live in Waltham, a quiet town. Our host,Jim, also lives in Waltham."

I'm 5ft 7"", of East Indian descent. I grew up in Montreal, Canada, and as a result speak French (with a Quebecois accent). I love photography and sports. Perhaps my favorite hobby however, is traveling. I thrill on discovering exotic places and learning about different cultures. I've made several trips to Latin America and at one point was very comfortable with speaking Spanish (I'm a little rusty now).

I work as a physician and love what I do. For fun, I also like listening to different types of music and visiting art galleries and museums. Plus, I think I have a good sense of humor!

I would love to meet interesting people in the Boston area. Ambitious and independent women with a sense of humor and occasional silliness are what I find irresistible."

Ioana Petrescu

Ioana was born in 1980 in Bucharest, Romania. She grew up in beautiful town called Campina, situated in the Carpathian Mountains. Although most Americans have never heard of this place, they've probably seen it in several Hollywood movies (the ones that are supposed to take place in Switzerland :)).

Ioana came to the United States in 1999 to attend Wellesley College. She was planning to study political science, but she ended up an economics major because studying economics was one of the requirements for receiving funding from George Soros. She enjoyed her "required" major so much that she ended up pursuing a Ph.D. degree in economics. If she becomes a famous economist, she will write a letter to George Soros thanking him for making her study economics. However, it is a small chance that this will happen since few women ever get to be famous in this field.

Currently she is a doctoral student at Harvard University in economics, doing research mostly in finance and microeconomics theory. She is also writing papers on taxation, corruption, income inequality, CEO compensation and social mobility. In addition, she is interested in interdisciplinary research in economics, psychology and sociology.

She is very interested in politics, both Romanian and American. She first became interested in the political process when she was 16 and Romania had one of the first democratic elections. When she arrived in the States, she worked for Al Gore and Hillary Clinton. She is a hardcore Democrat. She is still emotionally recovering from the Democratic loss in 2004, but she still hopes for a Democrat in the White House in 2008.

She did gymnastics for a number of years and she still loves this sport. She has never regretted spending so many hours in the gym because she learned more lessons about life there than anywhere else. Ioana still goes to see gymnastics meets both here and in Romania. She is also subscribed to all gymnastics magazines and reads all the books that are vaguely on the topic of gymnastics. Two of her dreams are to write a column for Inside Gymnastics and to coach gymnastics, maybe levels 2 to 4, nothing too hardcore.

Ioana is also an excellent cook. She cooks mainly Romanian and Greek, but she can probably put together some Italian and American dishes as well. She throws dinner parties for her close friends every two weeks or so. The attendance is always 100 percent and there are always people on the waiting list as well. If you are afraid of maximizing taste and calories per bite, then her dinner parties are not for you.

In her spare time, Ioana tries to do about 1,000 of things at the same time. She enjoys spending time with her friends, dressing up, going to parties and going clubbing. She never says no to a good play or ballet. She enjoys learning foreign languages. She started studying foreign languages at 3 and kept doing it over the years. Ioana is also addicted to Charlie Rose's show and more recently to The Wall Street Journal (this mostly due to the "malefic" influence that James has on her). Finally, she is involved with a lot of charitable and nonprofit organizations in Romania. She usually volunteers at the Saint John's hospital and at some nursing homes in Bucharest. She does volunteer work mostly in Romania because she has more free time when she is at home than when she is in Boston. She hopes to start volunteering in the States as well.

Ioana doesn't have a pet, but she wants to raise horses one day. She is currently single, but she is sure her half is out there. She is determined to find him, if he doesn't find her first."

Safa Sadeghpour

A force of nature. Male. To the usual question: "what do you do?" I answer the truth: I seek truth. At times I create beauty. At others I stand lost in awe at the world. During day time, my Clark Kent life consists of doing an MD and a PhD. I write plays (which have been performed), non-fiction (that has been published), and am working on a novel that will bring to end all novels. As a child I grew up in South America. If you're not free spirited at heart, we will probably not click.

Maia Sauro

As a Cape Cod native, I was born with sand in my shoes. I'm a firm believer in dance parties, yoga, and nature walks. I enjoy skiing in the winter, and worshipping the sun god in the summer. I'm close to being a vegetarian, although I can't resist egg and cheese sandwiches. Enjoy outdoor concerts - there's nothing like 'the lawn', theater, wine, and traveling. Robert Frost said it best: ""In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on."" And so, I just keep trucking on with a smile on my face and experience behind me. I graduated from Cornell in 2004, studied Fashion Management and I plan to start my own fashion company. I spent a semester in Florence and a summer in London and can't wait for the next time I'm on a plane Europe-bound. I enjoy sewing, painting, and taking"

Kara Schwartz

In May, I graduated from Simmons College with my Masters in Library Science. this spring, I briefly worked as a reference librarian at a public library south of Boston. Recently, I have been looking for a job as a school librarian or public library but have applied and considered working as a reference librarian at a college or university. This is my third time living in Boston and I came back to Boston in January 2004 after living and working in the Amherst/Northampton area for 5 years. In Amherst, I worked as a language lab coordinator at Amherst College where I was responsible for getting teachers and students to integrate technology into language learning.

My previous career has been varied but most of the time, it has been in the field of education. Immediately prior to working in Western MA, I worked in a public school in the Boston area and also took classes in multimedia design at Harvard Extension School. In addition, I have worked in Seattle and Colorado.

I also hold a Masters in TESOL(Teaching English as a Second Language) that I received at Teachers' College at Columbia University. While in college, I was an East Asian studies major and I completed my year abroad in Kyoto, Japan, living with a Japanese family, and after completing my MA, I taught at a Japanese university for two years and in Barcelona for a year. I have been very fortunate and have traveled through the United States, some of Canada, much of Europe and also throughout Asia, to some extent. I haven't done much traveling recently, but hope and expect to do more in the future.

I am a generalist, probably the reason why I decided to get my degree in Library Science. I am very active and usually swim 5 days a week and then tend to get exercise, usually walking or hiking the other days of the week. I like to hike and cross-country ski and in general be outside. Last year, I started cycling some, and would like to do more this summer.

I also have an interest in art, music, and dance. I play the flute and although I have found some friends to play with, I am interested in finding others too. I like to attend swing dances and am open to learning other kinds of dance. In the past, I have gone Israeli dancing, contradancing, and international dancing. I have an interest in historical houses and learning about local history and also art in general. I like to see independent films and go to folk and classical music concerts.

I come from a rather large family and it is a bit unique in that I am one of 4 girls and also have 6 nieces and one nephew. We are all very close, a typical Jewish family? I like to play with my nieces and nephews and also my friends' children. I see all members of my family fairly often and all of us usually get together at least once a year.

I am single and looking for Mr. Right to join me in my adventures."

Water is my passion, I am an aquatics instuctor and supervisor for the YMCA of Greater Boston. I have two amazing kids, one off to college another in high school. I love to teach swimming anywhere, if I could spend my time on the ocean, whether it be sailing or any other activity, I would be there as I am often in any weather. I love to laugh until it hurts. I love to swim endlessly, I am a hopeless romantic who loves a great sunset or dancing anywhere for no reason at all. I love to read an old fashioned romance novel, and I love to read about sports. I am a Boston sports fan, finally a rewarding experience. I am passionate about the people in my life, I am generous and loyal, and looking to meet a man with whom I can share all that I love and learn and share what he feels passionate about. Pink is my favorite color, Tulips are my favorite flower, a fireplace on a cozy winter day all snuggled in is wonderful. Although I work in aquatics, my other profession is that of a jewelry designer and fashion consultant. I love to dress people, and dress store windows, my degree is in Fashion Retail Merchandising with a minor in Interior Design. Artistic and creative, fun and young at heart are words often used when I am described by others, and I am willing to try anything once. I live in Dedham, MA. I grew up in Newton, MA.

Thurman Smith

Yankee male, 6'2"", 185 lbs., blue eyes; born 1942, excellent health. Intellectual, observant, energetic, creative, selectively social, considerate person of wide scope, high standards and dry wit and philosophic depth..

Protestant background, but no church affiliation; just intellectually know there is a Creator who has given us Natural Law, which is to be observed, and Natural Rights, which we must defend. Guess that makes me a Jeffersonian Deist.

Politics are basically the same as the those of the founding fathers: limited representative government that protects, much less intrudes on, the natural rights of the individual but is effective, and aggressive where necessary, in representing the interests of the country to the rest of the world. Proud to be ""politically incorrect."" Volunteer at Article 8 Alliance , which is working to remove the SJC justices who mandated same-sex marriage.

Successfully self-employed investment adviser specializing in mutual funds. Also publish a subscription newsletter with competitive performance record (http://www.equityfundoutlook.com). Business is sound and financially rewarding; has potential to become much larger from marketing the newsletter. Own home with income unit free and clear.

Education: Mostly private grade schools in the Washington, D.C. area followed by five years at St. Andrew's School in Delaware, an Episcopal boarding school (where Dead Poets Society was filmed). Then four years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; got a B.A. in European History; minored in music history. Completed an M.B.A. in finance and investments at Babson College, 1976.

Hobbies and Interests: In short: the arts, the outdoors, knowledge, and ideas.

The arts: Fine art, especially realist paintings. I also paint in oils, mostly landscapes of places visited. I care most for classical music, esp. opera, but also like early jazz, Broadway and American popular standards. Theater is also important, especially the classics.

Outdoors: Hiking, backpacking and all types of skiing. Favorite ski day is to ski up (with climbing skins) the backside of a downhill resort and ski their trails out (randonee skiing). Been on several backpacks out west. Bike, canoe and sail occasionally.

Knowledge and ideas: Attend lectures and walking tours of all sorts. Philosophy, history and architecture are special interests. Read periodicals extensively and generally know what has been, is, and might be going on here and elsewhere. Listen, with caution, to NPR news and take in lots of WBUR as well as Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage. Read the WSJ editorial page, Reason Magazine, National Review. Book reading: varied non fiction; lately heavy on guide books on areas of intended travel; starting on Ayn Rand.

Miscellaneous: Decent ballroom dancer; write an e-mail newsletter on events going on in Boston such as gallery openings, lectures, special events, parties and benefits, particularly with social potential. Give one or two big parties a year. Creative cook, love good food and fine wine; wrote a cookbook on easy gourmet dinners for two (not published). Traveled well both coasts of U.S. and Europe; aggressive sightseer. Enjoy satirical humor such as Anna Russell, P.D.Q. Bach and Stan Freberg and knowledge shows like ""Says You!"" (WGBH radio). Don't own a TV, but used to like ""Jeopardy!"" before the questions got too trivial. Love to constructively criticize almost everything and to point out (with wit I hope) ironies and inconsistencies. Have vast joke repertoire.

Member of and active in these organizations: Appalachian Mountain Club (hiking and ski leader), Harvard Travelers Club, Massachusetts Historical Society, Society of Colonial Wars (one ancestor arrived in Massachusetts in 1639), Historic New England, and the Victorian Society in America/ N.E. Chapter.

Member of, but less active, in these organizations: Boston Ski & Sports Club, Bostonian Society, Boston Public Library Associates, Copley Society, Friends of Copley Square, Friends of the Public Garden, French Library, English-Speaking Union, Harvard Masonic Lodge, & Sitzundjibers.

Former associations: Have been member of the Tennis & Racquet Club and the Union Club; was program committee activist on the MFA Council and ArtFriends Foundation. Served as culture chairman for Trinity Spirits Social Group. Was active in Ward Five (Beacon Hill, Back Bay) Republican Committee and ran for state representative in 1978. Severed relationships with Boston Athenaeum and MFA due to objection to outreach to homosexuals.

Personal History: Raised mostly in Washington, D.C. with occasional stays in Norfolk; father was a line Naval Officer. Attended private schools in the D.C. area, then prep school. Summer adventures before college included summer camps in New Hampshire, a stint with a conservation project in Olympic N.P. and two years at a wilderness and counselor training camp in the Smokies. In college was music director at campus radio station. Attended D.C. debutante balls (sister was one) and was trip counselor for two years at a boys' camp in the Adirondacks.

After a stint of active duty in the Navy aboard a repair ship in the Pacific, came to Boston, settled in the Back Bay and got an administrative job at IBM. After a year advanced into systems engineering. Later was a programmer/analyst for several investment and banking concerns. Entrepreneurial activity between and during jobs included drawing and publishing of a widely distributed print of the Boston skyline, drafting and publishing of The Explorer Recreational Map of greater Boston, writing of a book on mutual fund investing and brokering condominium sales in the Back Bay.

Needing more control over my living and working space, I bought and renovated a large Queen Anne Victorian in the West End of Malden in 1989, from which I also conduct my investment advisory and investment newsletter business and act as landlord. Looking to buy a small office building.

Goals: Hire an employee, grow and sell the business and then devote more time to creative projects including books on societal trends and public policy, the first of which would be a tome along the lines Thomas Paine's ""Common Sense"" for current times; that is, a call to get back to the original ideas the country was founded on. Also would like to design and build a Boston Opera House and write an opera (19th century style with actual melodies) on a libertarian political theme that will launch a second American Revolution (to get us back to where we were after the first!)"

Heather Somershein

I am an avid art lover, that is captivated by travelling and learning about other peoples adventurous streaks. I listen to my gut and it has never set me in the wrong direction, but possibly in a place I might not have originally envisioned myself. I am a go-getter and have learned to live everyday to the fullest. I opened up my own art gallery called Art Attack, www.artattack108.com, which has allowed me to lend my love of art back to the community, assisting in many non-profit organizations. I am a recent transplant to Boston so I am always looking for amazing people to share in my excitement of life and business aspirations.

Amy Spector

"I work as an Assistant Attorney General at the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office, where I do civil litigation on behalf of the Commonwealth. I handle a broad range of cases, typically involving constitutional and statutorily-based challenges to state laws, regulations, or decisions by administrative agencies. My work is intellectually challenging and I derive a lot of satisfaction from the public-oriented nature of the job. I have 2 great kids, ages 9 and 12, with whom I love spending time. I also love skiing, biking, reading, movies, and cooking. My favorite author is Calvin Trillin. I'm a graduate of Brown University (1981) and NYU School of Law (1985). I love NYC, ice cream, books, Vermont, the New Yorker, good friends, and jazz.. I live in Concord, MA. Favorite recent movie: Lost in Translation."

Karen Spence

I am a web/graphic designer for the Museum of Science Boston, although my career has included various stints in the fields of human services, hi-tech (software, hardware and Internetworking), architecture, law, and the arts. My degree is in Liberal Arts and I'm currently working toward a BA in Computer Arts/New Media at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco (online), but my profession and formal education is only a fraction of who I am. I just returned to Cambridge after living in Southern California for three years. Music is my refuge, particularly the world kind, the eclectic/lounge kind, and the old jazz and blues kind. I am attracted to retro space/machine/atomic age design. I seek endlessly for visual art with some semblance of a human/social theme (given it's so desperately needed now more than ever). I enjoy theater, film (foreign & indie), dance, wine tasting, and take pleasure in reading travel journals and books on various cultures. I am not a religious person and non-religion is a very big part of my life. I have a good sense of humor, which has been described as ironic, quick-witted, sometimes silly and sometimes irreverent - but never inappropriate. I am a lifelong seeker of truth and honesty no matter how painful I know it actually is, and I am single but I am primarily hoping to just meet like-minded friends, both male and female.

Jeffrey Spiegel

In my professional life I am Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at Boston University where I am also an Associate Professor. I spend my clinical time operating, seeing patients in offices in the south end of Boston and on Newbury Street, as well as answering emails I receive through www.drspiegel.com , my practice website. However, as an academic surgeon, the rest of my professional time is spent writing articles and books on head and neck surgery, plastic surgery, etc, teaching residents and medical students, traveling to lecture, and running a busy research program. My education was at the University of Michigan, the University of California-San Francisco, and Harvard.

I spend relatively little time sleeping as my interests extend far beyond academic medicine. I periodically consider running for political office, am constantly considering opening a business (something non-medical), invent things (have one patent already), take care of my 120 year old house in Brookline, and am a completely devoted Dad to my young son.

I dream a lot too, but expect most of my dreams to become reality eventually. On the some day soon list are becoming an avid boater, getting some of my comedy writing published, and possibly doing stand-up (bravery issues here).

I eat out too often but used to be a chef, am a former member of Sports Club LA (apparently this is important), read a lot (though mostly nonfiction), and love music (playing, listening, trivia)."

Born and brought up in the Boston area. Went to Wellesley High, BU, and the Sloan School at MIT (1980). Work in the venture capital industry, majority of my career has been within the computer and software industries. Single, never married and have no kids. Live in a wonderful part of Brookline near the St. Mary's Street T stop of the C Line. Enjoy summer weekends on Cape Cod in the Hyannis area. I like water related activities, but prefer to be on the water more than in it. I get pleasure from relaxing with family and trying to keep up with my nieces and nephew when they vacation on the Cape. Also enjoy exploring by boat the many different inlets the Cape has to offer. Favorite boating trip is a day trip to Martha's Vineyard. During the winter I like to ski, but don't go as often as would like. Have been learning how to Swing dance and like to attend Swing City in Cambridge on Friday nights. Go to the gym once a week to attend general conditioning classes. "Ey yi yi. I would save all this, but I can't get past James.

I like people. I have been called high energy, love to laugh, am completely creative and die for great clothes. My days are packed from the minute I get up to the minute I fall asleep. I never have trouble sleeping. I used to. I'm either content, exhausted or have an iron deficiency. That actually brings up another thing. I'm too honest. It holds me back in my career. I'm also pretty sure it's why I DO sleep at night. I'm true to myself. My father says I listen to what everyone tells me, then do whatever I want anyway. Do not ask me why an iron deficiency made me think of that. Which brings up family. Huh? I have 3 sisters. We're all completely different. My family is close. When no one else is around my dad tells me I'm the favorite. Of course, he says that to them when I'm not around too. My dad's great. He loves to start trouble.

OK. I think I've written my required 149 characters. There's only 1 left. Is it you?"

Samatha Sutton

Matthew Tom

"Assistant professor of mathematics at Emmanuel College (Ph.D. in statistics from Cornell, B.S. in math from MIT), department/college's resident ""Stat Boy"". Love a good card or board game (hold'em poker, blackjack, bridge, cribbage, chess, Scrabble) as much as the next math geek. Hail from Cambridge, a city boy through and through. Enjoy solid action flicks and dramas ("Kill Bill", "Rounders"), good fantasy/science-fiction movies ("Episode III"), quirky intelligent comedies ("My Sassy Girl"), and interesting documentaries ("The Hot Shoe", "Banana Split"). Recreational sports: hockey, soccer, volleyball, softball. Other hobbies and interests: aikido, rollerblading, comics/webcomics. Pardon the Interruption, but I'm also always up for good debate and witty banter. Myers-Briggs personality class: INTJ, borderline N."

I've loved flowers for as long as I can remember. I try to keep them in my house at all times. Lilacs are my favorites, but a bouquet of daisies will do just fine. I have great memories of walking down my parents' long driveway in the New Hampshire spring after the bus dropped me off, happily picking wildflowers to give to my parents - delicate Queen Anne's Lace, bright yellow Buttercups, blankly gazing Black Eyed Susans, and enumerable others that I couldn't even begin to name.

In fact, I have lots of great "growing up" memories. That's not to say my life was perfect - whose is - but the good far outweighs the bad. I read once that people who live to be older than 100 are usually those who let go of bad memories and grudges and hold on to happy thoughts. I guess I'm on my way, then. I'm not perky in a Denise Austin manner (and that's no knock against her - I use her workouts every week). But I'm definitely a ""glass half full"" woman.

I am divorced and I have an incredibly wonderful son. He laughs all the time and I am proud to say that he has an imagination equal to that of his mother. He reads lots of books, helping to feed that imagination - also like his mother. One of the great perks of having a young son is that I now have an excuse to do many things I like to do regardless - watch ""Monster's Inc.,"" ride the Tilt-a-Whirl, spin bedtime stories, blow bubbles, and the like.

I am Jewish and I try to incorporate my traditions and religion into my everyday life. I don't attend synagogue every week, but I light the Shabbat candles, keep Kosher, and teach my son about the holidays we celebrate. I also lived in Israel for four and a half years.

I like to travel but I need my time as a homebody as well. My favorite summer was the one I spent in Alaska. Funny story of how I got there - summer after college, I set out to be a lounge singer on a cruise ship and ended up climbing mountains in Alaska. Ask me about it some day. If you're thinking of visiting Alaska, by the way, I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's absolutely incredible. And the flowers are breathtaking."

I am originally from the Boston area. I grew up in Framingham and Stow, MA and have moved around the area for college and work but have never lived outside New England. Several years ago, I applied to grad schools in Colorado or Oregon, was accepted but never followed through to enroll in those M.S. Marketing or M.B.A programs.

My physical stats are as follows: 5' 9" tall, fit, 160 pounds with dark brown hair. I'm forty something and, thanks to good genes and a healthy lifestyle, look and feel young for my age. Friends would describe me as easy going, laid back, quiet but not shy, approachable and friendly.

I began my college education at "Mass Art" where I thought I'd pursue a degree in teaching, switched to graphic design but found my strength was in three-dimensional work. I took a leave of absence, considered a career in industrial design, worked as a draftsman but eventually entered the Communications/Media program at Fitchburg State College and specialized in photography. I studied under Peter Layton, a protégé of Minor White, and thoroughly enjoyed his teaching, the challenging curriculum and excelled in multi media and photography.

The broad experience that I gained in college prepared me well for my career as a corporate designer. I've spent most of my career working as a graphic designer and photographer primarily devoted to developing marketing collateral to promote products. This background has allowed me to "wear many hats" and work on all aspects of creative projects from concept to finish. I've enjoyed developing creative concepts, producing graphic design solutions, studio quality photography and seeing projects through to completion.

In my current position I work as a "corporate creative" at Comark Corporation, a small computer company that designs computers and engineered solutions for hazardous environments. I am responsible for producing all printed marketing collateral and product photography as well as for maintenance and improvement of an existing website. I enjoy the work there but have found that internal clients can hinder the creative process and opportunities for growth are very limited so I have been considering new job/career options.

My broad range of skills has proven an invaluable asset in small, leaner marketing groups. I've worked at an agency in NH, LTX Corporation and Chesterton Company where I was kept on staff in spite of several large layoffs. I am currently searching for new opportunities but the tight job market and corporate outsourcing has made the search very difficult so I have begun to consider a career change in the near future.

One option that I am considering is to switch to a career in medical imaging. I've job shadowed in radiology and in ultrasound departments and like the prospects of ultrasound because the technology is advancing rapidly and the employment outlook in the field is growing. I have started prerequisite courses needed for entrance to a degree program.

During the course of my career, I've found jobs that allowed me to live all over all over New England. This was certainly and unexpected benefit. I've lived and worked near Sunapee, Portsmouth and Newburyport. It's been great experience to move from place to place and discover all that each has to offer. I'm currently living in Charlestown and very happy to be there.

Living in Charlestown allows me is to walk or take the T almost anywhere that I want to go. Having that easy access to Back Bay and Beacon Hill has allowed me to enjoy many social and cultural events. I would surely like any opportunity to work in the metro Boston area so I could walk or use public transportation to get to work.

Charlestown reminds me of the seacoast towns where I've lived. It's got charm and character along with a neighborhood feel. The Warren Tavern, Figs and Tavern on the Water are fun places to go to meet new people. The views of Boston from Tavern on the Water are second to none. Ironsides Restaurant is an awesome place to go and watch sports. These are favorite hangouts of mine and I frequent them a couple of times per week.

I enjoy staying fit and usually choose running as my primary way to exercise. Several years ago I ran the Boston marathon in April and the Vermont City marathon six weeks after that. These days, I run shorter distances and am happy to run two or three miles through town and along the harbor in the Charlestown Navy Yard or along the Charles River. I'm getting back in shape after some injuries and hope to find some running partners who live locally, run my pace and like running three to six mile distances. My pace used to be eight minutes per mile in the marathon but I have slowed a few steps in recent years. My current pace is about nine minute miles but I hope to pick up the pace as I get back in shape.

Another interest that helps to keep me fit is hiking. I've hiked half of the 4,000 foot high mountains in the White Mountain National Forest. Hikes to some peaks, like Mt. Lafayette, have been done year after year and I never get tired of them. I've done many hikes with the Appalachian Mountain Club but am seeking a group of friends who like hiking and would like to hit the trails. The hiking season is short but I usually manage to go for at least five or six hikes every summer and fall.

Other interests that I have are to watch sports (Red Sox, Patriots but I'm not an avid fan), hang out with friends, cross country ski, go to wine tastings, checking out micro breweries, bike along the beach, canoe or kayak on flat water, roller blade on the Esplanade, try out new coffee shops, visit the MFA or galleries, shoot pool and explore new parts of the city.

A pastime that's last but not least is going out to hear live jazz and blues music. Johnny D's, Ryles and The Good Life are some of my favorite places to hear local live music. Occasionally, I make a trip to listen to music at the Grog in Newburyport or the Press Room in Portsmouth, NH."

Bayard Wenzel

I spin def algorithms for HP during the day but in my downtime I enjoy microwaving hot-dogs and building totally random stuff. E.g. a circus tent; who builds their own circus tent? Answer: ME. If you have a circus, let me know. I have the tent.

In other news: my namesake held men who carry pistols as cowards, but cannoneers as worthy opponents; I'm trying to stay out of that kind of trouble. Also! I converse with paramecium. And sometimes my kneecaps look funny. Have you ever really stared at your kneecaps? Freaky. (As an aside the army is researching how a man can successfully stare a goat TO DEATH!@#!!!!, so do be careful).

If you ever have call to make me breakfast, know that I prefer my bacon crispy."

Elizabeth Williams

Legal writer for West Publishing. Baylor undergrad, University of Texas Law School. Former professional ballet dancer, former bartender (in Anchorage, among other places). Love running, skiing, theatre, bicycling, sailing, spicy food, baseball, dogs, and New Yorker cartoons. Next worlds to conquer: surfing and Italian.

Julie Williams

Proprietor of Verite Fine Murals. An artist who supervised the installation of a twelve foot long wooden octopus on a 30' wall, and who has been on national TV doing a mural, yet pretension, power and the trappings of success don't particularly interest me. Budding writer: magazine articles, poetry, stories, and spiritual writings. One teenage son. Love dogs and other animals, allergic to horses and cats.

Southern grandparents made me value hospitality (thank you James, you have a gift), the old fashioned and endangered sense of 'honor', and a man standing up when I come to the table! My parents taught me to go the extra mile, try to be an honest and reliable person, and that but for the grace of god there go I, and to help other people however I am able. From my mother comes my love of art, travel, and beautiful, creative food and celebration, from both of them my love of conversation and books. I am often funny and playful, irreverent or even zany.

I am fluent in Spanish, speak passable French. I graduated from Wesleyan CT in studio art, plus one year of remedial art at Museum School.

Interests: magic in the kitchen, singing, dancing, qigong, tai chi, books, nature, used bookstores, holistic medicine and nutrition...much more.

Wish I owned a kayak, could tango and speak Chinese, was a kung fu chick and had time to lie around on the beach all summer.

Spiritual/mystic, Taoist/God. Influenced by nature, the Society of Friends, Unitarian Universalism, and traditional Native Americans. Need I add I'm left leaning with friends of all colors and sexual preferences? Yet I'll defend your right to be an atheist or a Republican or...to the last, even if I don't agree with you. I strongly prefer agreeing to disagree, over arguing.

For a middle class, educated, white chick from Hingham, I have led an unusual life: almost starving to death at age seven, a formative experience. Being (with my former husband) official national press contact for the Mohawk nation during an armed conflict, on the reservation, over casino gambling, while quite pregnant. Standing in a ring of fire being cleansed by a Mexica medicine man. I trained in qi gong external healing and I do feng shui as a hobby, and I am deeply intuitive, yet you will find me down to earth and practical, and not at all new age. I seek people I do not have to hide my belief system from.

It has been part of my path to support family members with health challenges, and people with ""no baggage"" bore me to tears. I am a deeper, more resourceful, more wise and compassionate person for my struggles. It is how you carry your baggage that counts. (Mine is in a matched leopard print set on wheels.) If you don't have any, I wonder just what you have been doing with yourself, unless you are 22 years old!

Being present in the moment, accepting what is and flowing with the true nature of things, is the goal, and authenticity is important to me. The world desperately needs us each to be our truest self, to discover who we are, and allow ourselves to unfurl, fully bloomed, and share our gifts.

Single, romanceable by a parenting friendly fellow who is warm, kind, addiction-free and knows how to kiss. Monogamous, no games or control freaks please."

Jonathan Yang

Jonathan has been in the Boston area since 1999 nd considers himself a reasonably healthy convert from his childhood as a New Yorker. He will be graduating from medical school in May of 2006 and hopes to one day become a pediatric, transplant, or cancer surgeon. His other major professional interest is international relations, having written for the Arms Control Today and worked on the staff of several model United Nations simulations, and he aims to enter the world of diplomacy and international politics later in his life as well. Medical student with aspirations of practicing here and abroad. Would also love to one day become a diplomat with the US Embassy in Beijing.

Xiao-Wei Zhu

International business executive in high technology. Bilingual and bi-culture, well traveled in US, Europe and Asia. Intelligent, open minded, humorous and passionate about life, adventurous but not reckless. Interested in everything life has to offer. Hard working but knows the importance of enjoying life. Enjoys intelligent conversation, sailing in warm climate, performing art and visual art, traveling, cooking, reading a good book, dancing and all kinds of music. Single and looking.

Jamie Zigelbaum

"I'm a dreamer, minus the sitting around stoned part. I can also be lulled into idealism, but the horns of reality have my ear. I think that the acceptance of paradox and contradiction within each other, the world, and ourselves characterizes the truly intelligent mind, though I don't think we need stand by stoically and watch life pummel the needy.

I'm a student of Human-Computer Interaction, an interdisciplinary field within Computer Science that bridges Psychology, Engineering, and Art among others. I try and stay at the conceptual end of it and love to design new tangible ways to interact with abstract computation. I'm also an artist focusing mainly on paint, ink, and computer art, though I also write, record, sing, film, and breathe occasionally. I love to imbibe the arts as well as finagle them. Film and music are my favorite flavors to consume; I've been known to lose myself (temporarily) while watching every film by a newly found director. Museums are good fun too.

I grew up in Boston and my family is here. My friends and family are extremely important to me; they are fantastic. I have a number of friends whom I've known since we were all five years old, some are in other places now but we manage to stay close. I am single and dating quite a bit. It is often discouraging though, so I take breaks. Dating is not a 'favorite pastime' for me, but a means to an end.

I love to travel and experience new things. I love to write clichés. But really I was in India for four months a couple years back and I got bit with the travel bug. I was there studying Buddhism, which has been my religion for years. After being pleasantly agnostic for my entire life I found that it wasn't a ridiculous idea to learn from the wisdom of the ages. At one point I thought I needed to be a monk in order to really be Buddhist, but I realized that I was kind of nuts (which I am) and that I was being an extremist (which I can be). Now it is a small but important part of my life; a guide that I can choose to follow.

I quit all the fun things (drinking, smoking, etc.) long ago, so I'm really a big loser these days. I love music but have seen so many shows that unless the band is incredible I get bored. I don't like bars much, but occasionally have fun there if I'm with good people. Mostly I like to hang out during my free time - either outside in the sun on a walk, inside bathed in unnatural light from million-pixel displays, or anywhere else as long as the company and the conversation is good. It is always nice to learn something too."
